An unverified backup gives me no confidence at all. But, I did have an alternate cloned drive because I have used ones before that were made with EZ Gig IV.Īgreed. You are right! I never tried to boot from my Macrium cloned disks.I just assumed they would work. System and data are just too valuable NOT to do it. For image backups it's essential to buy a hard drive to test at least one restore, if a spare HDD is not available. Luckily, I had also made a clone using EZGig IV and the Apricorn USB adapter I had purchased several years ago from Crucial along with a laptop SSD. When that finished I ended up with a blank pale blue screen with a little note at the bottom right saying my copy of Win7 was not legitimate, valid, or something like that.

I had to boot from the Win7 recovery disk and finally Windows took a long time to prepare my desktop. I made a Macrium clone of the drive yesterday and booted to that drive this morning. A restart usually worked fine until today. My Win7 desktop started having startup errors because SATA drive 0 could not be found.

The Apricorn USB adapter seems to be incapable of cloning a full sized desktop HDD.because of the power requirements I suspect. I installed the 2.5" cloned drive and the computer started with no problem.
